Mozilla kent gebruikersprofielen. Iedere gebruiker kan zo een eigen profiel krijgen, maar per gebruiker kun je ook meerdere profielen aanmaken. In een profiel wordt alle gebruikersspecifieke informatie bijgehouden, zoals instellingen, geïnstalleerde extensies, bezochte websites, ingevoerde wachtwoorden, gedownloade bestanden (voor de downloadbeheerder), etc. Alle informatie van ieder profiel wordt apart opgeslagen in een profielmap buiten de programmamap.
Start je Mozilla met de optie -p of met -ProfileManager dan kun je de aangemaakte profielen beheren (nieuwe maken en bestaande hernoemen of verwijderen).
Zie MozBackup voor het beheren van profielen (voor het maken van een backup en het selectief terugzetten van backups).
Firefox
In het MozBrowser-forum wordt uitgelegd hoe je een nieuw profiel aanmaakt in Firefox:
- Sluit Firefox af als deze is opgestart.
- Ga naar 'Start' --> 'Uitvoeren...', typ "Firefox -p" en klik op 'OK'. Profielbeheerder wordt gestart.
- Klik op 'Profiel aanmaken'/'Create Profile' en volg de instructies.
- Selecteer het nieuwe profiel en klik op 'Start Firefox'.
- Firefox start met het nieuwe profiel...
Thunderbird
Als Thunderbird geïnstalleerd is met het installatieprogramma dan is er voor Windows gebruikers in het menu Start al een snelkoppeling aanwezig. Deze is dan te vinden in Start (> Alle programma's) > Mozilla Thunderbird > Profile Manager. De profielbeheerder start op en vanaf optie 3 kan het stappenplan voor Firefox gevolgd worden.
Als je Thunderbird op Linux of Mac OS X gebruikt moet je wel gewoon de instructies volgen voor Firefox.
Andere Mozilla-programma's
Voor andere Mozilla-programma's, zoals Nvu en Sunbird, gelden dezelfde instructies als voor Firefox. Alleen de naam is iedere keer anders.
Als je een nieuw profiel hebt aangemaakt en je wilt daarin de gegevens van een ander profiel importeren dan is MozBackup handig om bij de hand te hebben.
